Qustodio Review

Nowadays, it’s getting quite difficult to keep up good parenting as we enter the age of technology. Almost every activity our children do consists of gadgets and the internet. They love using them for entertainment like movies and games. Sometimes, they even need it for school work. Since everything is evolving through the use of modern-day solutions, maybe parenting should too. In this Qustodio review, I present to you the next best thing in parental control.

What is Qustodio?

In the first part of this Qustodio review, I’ll be explaining what this app actually is.

You could say that in this modern age, traditional parenting just won’t cut it anymore. You need to take on new measures. So, it’s time for us dinosaurs to adapt and take on our kids in their home court – technology.

Qustodio UK is the best solution for all your parenting tasks because it has just about anything you could ever need or think of. It gives you a daily (and detailed) activity log, filters websites, and it can even automatically block inappropriate websites. Don’t worry, we’ll get into these details later on.

Before anything else, I’d like to give props to Qustodio parental control for this one reason in particular: complete customization. What I mean by this is that you can customize almost anything in the app! The rules you want to impose for your child, to the activity reports that you get. And, you can choose to check this in the online dashboard, or directly access it within the app.

How does Qustodio actually work?

A great thing about it is that it actually functions through its customized VPN servers. It receives the raw internet data and sends the curated traffic to your children. This is how it implements all the rules you customized earlier on.

Fun fact: Qustodio Parental Control isn’t the only product it offers. There is actually Qustodio for business too which basically makes sure that the employees are actually working and not just slacking off with other online activities. It also comes in the form of Qustodio for schools. This is great to install in university computers to ensure that the students are using the devices for educational purposes only.

Qustodio UK Price

Price plans for Qustodio

Here is the most awaited topic of this Qustodio review. As much as I hate to say this, Qustodio parental control comes at a rather expensive price. But don’t worry, it all depends on the plan that you select.

The plans come in the form of “Family Size”. First is the Small Family Size. From the name itself, it only allows you to connect up to 5 separate devices. This is also the cheapest. Then we have the Medium which can connect all the way up to 10 devices. Lastly, we have the Large family plan which allows you to keep track of over 15 devices at the same time. This is definitely the most expensive one they offer since it monitors quite a lot. The plan would be perfect for either really techy kids or a big family.

What is Qustodio free?

Yes, you read that right. There is a free version of Qustodio that parents on a budget can avail of! But before you get too excited, you should know that the free Qustodio UK version can only allow you to connect one device.

Another downside is that some of the premium features won’t be available to you. If you subscribe to a plan, you can get up to 30 days of activity history but in the free app, you’re limited to only 7 days. Don’t worry, you’ll still have the basic controls like time limitations, and content filtering. However, you can’t use the application-based time restrictions or location tracking either.

How to Set Up Qustodio UK

In this segment of the Qustodio review, I’ll be giving you a short tutorial to guide you in setting up this app.

1. Starting Off

First, you should go to the Qustodio website. From there, you should pick out a payment plan (either small, medium, or large) and then subscribe.

2. Validation

Now, it’s time to validate your license and create your account. Make sure to do this step using a web browser.

3. Creating Your Child’s Profile

Here, you set up your kids’ profiles. When you get to the page, it’s pretty simple. All you have to do is input their names, gender, birth year and an avatar to complete it.

4. Add Devices

This is when you install a local client on each of the devices you want to keep track of. Afterward, you have to assign it to your child’s profile that you set up earlier on. For this step, using Mac or Windows, you can choose to apply configuration settings to all the accounts on the feature. Or, you can simply configure each account separately.

And don’t fret, there won’t be any confusion in downloading the app. There is only one Qustodio UK app on both the App Store and the Play Store. So, it is important that once you’ve just opened the app, you have to indicate whether it is the child’s or the parent’s device.

For Android, you need to take note and enable the following: Accessibility access, device-level access, and Apps with usage access. Also, remember to enable your mobile as the device admin app. You have to do all these so that your child can’t use a third-party app to get rid of Qustodio parental control.

But for iOS, you will need to separately install a device profile to get the features to work.

Qustodio UK for iOS vs Android

In this section, of the Qustodio review, we’ll be talking about some of the differences you get from the app depending on whether you’re an Android or iOS user.

Even though both versions look completely identical, there are a lot more features available in the Android Qustodio parental control than there is in the iOS version.

iOS can access the basic features like setting time limits, scheduling apps, web content filtering, and locking the device. However, it can’t monitor or block texts and calls. There is also no option for a Panic Button which could be a problem for kids that pass might live or have to pass through unsafe areas.

There is also a slight difference in location reporting. On Android, you can personalize it on how often you want to be updated with the location of your child. On iOS, however, you only get updates whenever the location changes.

But it is pretty impressive how the Qustodio parental control app was able to get on iOS devices in the first place. Apple is known to be quite strict when it comes to interactions between apps.

Features of Qustodio UK

We have finally reached the part of the Qustodio review where we talk about the different features it has to offer. Keep on reading and I think you’ll be quite impressed since it has everything you could possibly ask for.

1. Qustodio Parental Control’s In-Depth Reports

Earlier on in the Qustodio review, I said that they actually provide daily reports or your child’s activity on their devices. You can choose to receive this by email or simply check the online dashboard. You can also set it to notify you on a daily or weekly schedule if you’d like.

2. What is Qustodio App Monitoring

Once you receive the activity summary we talked about earlier, it comes as a very detailed report. And by detailed, I mean DETAILED. It is divided into social networking, entertainment, etc. If you want to block something so that your child won’t be able to access it anymore, you can simply hover over the app or site and click on it in order to block it. However, the specifics (search words, used data) aren’t shown here.

3. Content Filtering

This is probably the main reason why you’re even considering getting a Qustodio UK subscription.

When you first open the app, it already blocks sites that fall into the categories Violence, Pornography, Gambling, and Drugs by default. However, you can also filter out other categories of your choosing. Some of these categories are entertainment, games, social networking and others.

Qustodio can block content

For uncategorized websites, you can choose to automatically block them and force safe search. If you’d like, you can also customize it to alert you whenever a blocked site is being accessed.

If you’re worried about your genius teen being able to get around the app, don’t stress because Qustodio is actually browser-independent. This means that the app doesn’t rely on the browser to work since it runs and monitors the entire device itself. And even if you turned off the “loopholes” (VPNs and proxies) category, the app will still do its job in blocking any of the selected categorized sites.

4. What is Qustodio Time Limit?

This feature allows you to set a time limit for your child’s device usage. It follows a one-hour incrementation per device, and you can also set a maximum usage time per day.

However, if you want your child to limit their screen time, you should turn off the “per device setting”. So, when the maximum time limit is reached, your child cannot switch to another device anymore. You can even set up the app to automatically lock the device once the time limit is up. In addition, you can even get alerts whenever this occurs. Pretty neat right?

You can also set different time limits for specific days. You’ll find this quite helpful if you want your child to focus on exams week or simply get more sleep.

5. Location Reporting

Earlier, I also mentioned that the app allows you to keep track of your child’s location. You can check your child’s location as often as every 5 minutes. This is great for parents that work away from their children and want to be constantly updated on their whereabouts. Now, we don’t have to worry about why they haven’t texted us back yet, we can check ourselves.

6. What is Qustodio Social Media Monitoring?

Don’t be too excited, Qustodio can really only monitor the Facebook activity of your child. Since there’s a lot of other social media platforms nowadays, this feature may prove to be not so great.

First, you have to get your child to actually input their Facebook log-in credentials willingly. Which is definitely not an easy task. But after this, you can track ALL their Facebook activity no matter what device they use.

However, this is only limited to Facebook itself and not Messenger. Here, you can see all the posts, comments, pictures, friends, and even the chats. But, this is where Qustodio draws the line, it doesn’t show you the contents of the chats.

7. SMS Management

This feature allows you to monitor or block the texts or calls your child receives. And, to take it a step further, you can also see the contents of the messages.

8. Panic Button

This feature is pretty straightforward. Whenever your child’s in danger, all they have to do is to press the panic button and your device, or the trusted contact will be alerted immediately.

Qustodio Panic SOS button

But take note that this will only notify the parent or the trusted contact. It will not call the authorities. It will keep on sharing the location with the parent device until it is turned off.

Setting Up Rules

In this part of the Qustodio review, I’ll be talking about a great method you can use in setting up rules for your kid.

First of all, the app actually recommends that you simply observe your child’s device usage throughout the day. Then, you can formulate the rules for them and apply it to the app later on. You can also set up the time limits per app by pressing on the clock icon right beside the green toggle.

And don’t worry, your kids won’t be able to uninstall the app without your password first.

What is Qustodio Customer Support?

The app unfortunately only has one method of contacting customer service. And that is through a ticket submission page. This is probably not that appealing to parents that urgently need an answer to their problems.

And just a heads up, Qustodio prioritizes their premium subscribers for the customer support. You can’t really get mad at them since they are paying a lot of money for their service.

Conclusion

And that wraps it up for this Qustodio review. I hope you were able to get all the information you needed.

You can always stick with the free version if you don’t need the premium ones to get by. However, if you need to connect a lot of devices, you should definitely consider subscribing to one of the plans. It is a strong tool for parent control that will let you be on top of the game. You will be able to follow your child’s movements and activities in order for you to worry less.
