Express VPN Review and cost

Express VPN Review

ExpressVPN is one of the oldest and most popular VPN available on the market. And it’s one of my favorites. Why? First it offers a high speed connection. Second it covers a wide range of countries (over 90 countries when I wrote this Express VPN Review). And third its VPN apps are user-friendly and available on most platforms. So let’s review ExpressVPN in details now.

Express VPN, a fast and reliable VPN with multiple servers

For years, ExpressVPN has provided fast and safe internet browsing thanks to their private network. I can compare the quality of their service to the ones offered by HideMyAss.

As I said, it covers many countries: 94 countries (including 145 cities)… and counting! You can browse from the USA, Canada, Australia or India, among others. Then you can connect through native apps for both computers (Windows, Mac OS, Linux) and mobile devices (Android, iOs). If you prefer to avoid the use of an app, it allows manual connection. But the app allows you to use the OpenVPN protocol, which is the best.

What do you think about that? Express VPN offers unlimited high speed internet, data encryption, video streaming such as Netflix from another location, P2P and torrents access!

expressvpn what is vpn

ExpressVPN maintains a strict no logs policy. And the privacy policy makes it clear what it does and doesn’t collect. Hence it doesn’t log your browsing history, the destination or contents of your traffic, the IP addresses used to connect to the VPN, or the DNS queries. Your activities on the web stay private and your privacy is protected. It collects only the minimal data required to operate their service.

ExpressVPN: Plans and pricing

Express VPN Free

ExpressVPN offers 3 plans: With a monthly fee, a biannual fee or an annual fee. The yearly subscription plan is the most economical, as you can get a discount on ExpressVPN. You can try their service risk free for 30 days with their money-back guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied you can easily cancel the subscription and get a refund. Their offer may change, click on the picture to visit their site and get the latest promotion!

The VPN ExpressVPN in details

Minimalist and easy to use

Express VPN has a native app for every platform, including PC (Windows, Mac and Linux), Smartphone (Android and iPhone), Tablets (Android and iPad) and other devices. Each of these versions are really easy to use: All you need is to launch the app, connect to the server of the desired country and voilà! You can enjoy a safe Internet.

I regularly use their Smart Location, to get the fastest server. But if you prefer, you can get the details of each VPN location. Indeed, Express provides a Speed Test which will indicates the Speed Index, Latency and Download Speed for each server. So you can choose the best server for each location.

If you want, you can modify a few extra settings. For example, advanced users can change the VPN protocol to better fit to their needs.

expressvpn protocols settings

Express VPN provides users with their own DNS servers by default, which is perfect to access a non restricted internet in internet-censored countries.

ExpressVPN Netflix

This VPN works just fine with Netflix! It unblocks all content and offers a high speed for the best video quality. Here’s the proof below.

Torrents and P2P allowed – NO logs

The VPN ExpressVPN has unlimited broadband access which provides a really fast connection. Therefore, users can enjoy P2P and torrents through their services.

There are no logs on your use of the VPN, no logs on the type of traffic you exchange online, leaving no traces at all. Furthermore, their systems do not have sensitive data about users. So even when compelled Express VPN can’t provide data. Because there isn’t any to start with.

However, as with most VPN services, it’s forbidden to engage in illegal activities via their connection. You’ve been warned.

Kill switch

Of course, ExpressVPN offers a Kill Switch feature (it’s the number 1 VPN, remember). What is it? Well it prevents internet traffic from flowing outside the VPN tunnel if your VPN connection drops unexpectedly. So your IP address is never in the clear and your privacy is safe.

Split tunneling

Lastly, ExpressVPN added a new feature to their software: Split tunneling (available on Router and Mac). Basically, it’s the process of allowing you to decide what traffic uses the VPN route. Indeed, a VPN is the best way to protect your privacy. But you may encounters situation where your VPN connection doesn’t allow you to:

  • Access foreign and local web services at the same time
  • Access LAN devices (printers for example)

But if you enable a split-tunneling, you can bypass these limitations and use all the services while staying protected.

Pro-tip from Al

Here configuration is the key. Indeed, most of the time you want to make sure all your traffic goes through the VPN. But here you’re creating exceptions. So make sure to properly setup split tunneling to avoid any risk where your data are in the clear… All your sensitive data or downloads should use your VPN connection at all times!

Native apps

You should know that all modern mobile devices lets you manually set up the connection settings of any VPN available on the market. As some of their competitors, ExpressVPN makes it even easier by offering a custom proprietary application for each environment – allowing the use of OpenVPN on all your devices.

The VPN client for iPad is the perfect example of the commitment that ExpressVPN puts in offering an easy and intuitive app to its users. Indeed, it’s very simple to use the app. You just need to select a country, then you connect and that’s it.

Bonus: Browser extensions

ExpressVPN is available on Chrome and Firefox too. And this is a little bit like split-tunneling, where all you browser traffic uses your VPN connection. While your computer and the rest of your traffic uses you real IP address.

Their extensions are easy to use and give you access to all their servers. Furthermore, essential features like Kill Switch and DNS leak protection are also available.
