What is Atlas VPN Review?
It’s right in the header! It’s a VPN by the name of Atlas. So, the real question is, what is a VPN?
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. In laymen’s terms, this piece of software creates a “virtual” network for your private area. It can be one device. It can be your router to cover all the devices you use.
AtlasVPN came to life back in 2019. It’s a very new entry into the world of VPN. In this very short time, the company has gathered quite the following, over 6 million users to be precise.
Top-notch media outlets like The Washington Post, Forbes, TechRadar, CNET, and CNBC have featured this VPN. As of now, AtlasVPN is part of the Nord Security Group, one of the biggest players in online security.
It’s one of the few VPNs on the market that offer AES-256 as well as ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption for the host devices.
Shortcomings of VPN Atlas
There’s no doubt that this VPN is a great contender for anyone looking for online privacy. However, there are loopholes in its services.
- Server Locations: Most of the charm a VPN can pack lies in server numbers and locations. In this regard, ExpressVPN has left AtlasVPN far behind. It only offers 750 servers in 37 locations around the world.
- Ads & Limited Speeds: As the company is rocking a freemium model right now, there are lots of ads and the speed is limited on the free version.
- Expensive: Don’t get me wrong. The 3-year plan is one of the most economic out there. But most regular users aren’t comfortable committing to service for that long. I’ll disclose the entire pricing plan in the next section.
- No 360 Support: As you may already know, Atlas VPN review is only a VPN. It doesn’t offer any anti-virus, desktop security, or other security tools.
Plans & Pricing of AtlasVPN
So, you might be wondering, like all other prospective buyers, how much does it cost? Like some of the other VPN giants, AtlasVPN doesn’t restrict your connections based on devices. Rather, it’s a time-based pricing plan.
Learn about the **amazing** pricing of Atlas VPN! Check out the **cool** picture below to find out more. If you want great value for money, this is the VPN for you. Click the link to explore further details and discover why Atlas VPN stands out from the rest.
For starters, the 2-year plan is the most economic. It takes only £1.34/Month to keep the service running. However, you have to pay the full price upfront which is £36.21. If you’re comfortable with spending this much on a VPN, the 2-year plan is undoubtedly the best for you.
If you’re not up for 2 years of subscription, you may want to go for the 1-year plan. VPN Atlas costs £29.02 in one go. So, essentially, the per month cost of using AtlasVPN goes up to £2.42.
The least economic of the bunch is the monthly plan. You have to pay a whopping £8.09 if you want to go month-to-month. In retrospect, you’d have to pay £231.24 for 3 years!
On the bright side, there’s Atlas VPN free download, open for all. This is why it’s known as the freemium model. You don’t even have to enter any payment information (credit card numbers/e-wallet credentials) to use the free version.

Pros & Cons
Any product under the sun has some positive features and some negative aspects. It’s just not possible to come up with a perfect product. Call it the law of nature if you want. So, here are the pros and cons I think are the most prominent in my Atlas VPN review.
- Unique features like SafeSwap & Tracker Blocker
- Offers a free version
- Offers ad block
- The 3-year plan is very economic
- Unblocks basic streaming services
- Limited server locations
- Speed is restricted on the free version
- Expensive for short-term use
- The free version has ads
- No servers in the African region
My Atlas VPN Review
I didn’t come up with this review from thin air. As your personal VPN expert, it’s my responsibility to follow a procedure and break it down when necessary. And I believe now is the perfect time to list my criteria for this review.
Privacy & Security
The most important aspect of a VPN without any doubt. Any sensible person proficient on the internet will look for ways to maintain their privacy. While VPN Atlas does a good job, there are better options with stronger security. Take ExpressVPN for example.
Features
It’s the features that make it or break it for any product. VPN Atlas packs some serious power when it comes to features.
Support
The importance of customer support may not hit you until you face a problem. AtlasVPN does offer 24/7 support but that’s only restricted for premium users.
Value for Money
If you’re going for the 3-year plan, the VPN definitely offers a lot of value. That’s of course if you’re comfortable committing in the long term. For 1-year and 1-month plans, there are better services like ExpressVPN out there.
Ease of Use
On the bright side, there’s nothing complex about using this VPN. You download the client and connect to a server.
VPN Atlas User Experience
Before I sat down to write this review, I did some testing of my own in different aspects. Here are the results.
- Netflix: One of the most common uses of a VPN nowadays is unlocking Netflix’s geo-restrictions. Atlas VPN Netflix performed well for all VOD services in general.
- Torrenting: Atlas VPN Torrenting supports all major P2P clients.
- China: China is one of those countries that want nothing to do with the outside internet world. And it makes the prospect of connecting a Chinese server even more irresistible. But Alas! VPN Atlas doesn’t have any Chinese servers.
- Video Games: Being a gamer myself, I know how important the latency of the servers is. A VPN can help big time to improve your scores. Unfortunately, Atlas is not a good choice in this regard.
Atlas VPN Review Features
This is the section I’m most excited about as a reviewer. We’re about to explore the unique features of this VPN together!
- SafeSwap: On enabled servers, your IP is constantly changed to mask your presence from any 3rd
- Tracker Blocker: No 3rd party can track your online activities. Not even your ISP.
- Split Tunneling: A networking model to use your private network and other public networks at the same time.
- IP Leak Protection: If you’re connected to the same server for long periods, there’s a chance of IP leaks. AtlasVPN offers protection against that.
- Private DNS: You get your own DNS with no logging, disconnected from the rest of the world.
- Data Breach Monitor: An in-house algorithm to scour the internet and find whether your data has been exposed or not.
- Kill Switch: At any point of your session, if you feel the connection is unstable, you can kill the network with one click.
VPN Atlas Windows Client Interface
The Windows client for VPN Atlas is as minimalistic as it gets. Once you launch the client, you get your list of available servers on the left side and the connection status on the right side. On the leftmost section, you have navigation buttons to switch between the home, settings, assistance, etc. pages.
Other Clients
Apart from Windows, Atlas VPN Android, macOS, iOS, Android TV, and Fire TV Stick are available. The interface and the settings are pretty much the same for all of them.
Test Results
Let’s take a look at the technical aspects and my test results for this VPN.
- Speed: The speed on the premium version is good. But the free version seriously limits your options. ExpressVPN is far better in this regard.
- DNS Leaks: It’s one aspect I’m satisfied with about VPN Atlas. The strong 2-layer encryption protected against DNS or IP leaks even after long sessions.
Customer Support
Customer support for VPN Atlas is good, but it’s not very good for the free users. Premium users get 24/7 support. The agents are decently knowledgeable. But I didn’t get answers to some of my technical questions.
Competitor Comparison
Let’s take a quick look at how AtlasVPN compares to other prominent players in the market.
AtlasVPN vs ExpressVPN
There’s pretty much no competition here. I mean, ExpressVPN is the #1 for reasons, right? From security features to server locations to connection stability, ExpressVPN beats Atlas in every regard.
AtlasVPN vs NordVPN
Interestingly, both are owned by the Nord Security Group right now. As a result, the features and server locations are pretty much identical. NordVPN offers a few more servers when VPN Atlas is more about innovation.
